Regional cycle network strategy update

A connected regional cycle network is a shared vision of EDAs, RTOs, councils, cycle groups and local businesses, who agree that an overarching regional strategy is the key to progress.

Bay of Connections is facilitating this work on behalf of key stakeholders and funding the development of an initial business case for investment to enable the creation of a region-wide network.

The business case will present the vision for a regional cycle network and include an overview of the existing network and relevant stakeholders, analysis of gaps in the network, a regional impact analysis, and outline a process for developing an action plan in partnership with key stakeholders.

Mapping of existing and proposed cycle trails and shared paths is complete, and a number of proposed cycle projects are captured in the Bay of Plenty Regional Land Transport Plan 2021-2031.
As the business case is progressed, Bay of Connections will connect with stakeholders to get input and feedback on various components of the draft document.

From there, we will look to bring together our original stakeholder group, along with relevant representatives from councils, government agencies, and other organisations to finalise the document and develop the action plan.

A connected regional cycle network will provide an impetus to economic recovery, particularly in the tourism sector, and enhance low carbon transport networks.
