The Low Carbon Construction Forum – convened to explore options to help Aotearoa New Zealand meet its 2050 climate change targets – has been postponed due to the recent COVID developments.

The forum was originally set down for 2 September 2021.

A partnership between Rotorua Lakes Council, Rotorua Economic Development, Scion and Bay of Connections, the forum seeks to highlight the benefits of low-carbon construction and create momentum around adopting a greater level of engineered timber-based construction across the country.

Currently, the building and construction sector is responsible for 20 per cent of New Zealand’s carbon emissions. New research shows that building industry emissions need to be halved in the next ten years if New Zealand is to achieve its 2050 carbon target.

Locally, Scion is helping to increase the uptake of tall timber buildings in New Zealand with research and collaborations, read more here.

An overview of the benefits of low carbon construction and industry developments overseas feature in this brief video.

We’ll let you know when a new date for the forum is confirmed.
