Economic Development New Zealand (EDNZ) conference
Ensuring regional economies not only survive, but thrive, in a post-COVID climate was at the heart of presentations delivered during the recent EDNZ conference.
The conference, hosted in Palmerston North at the end of last month, was a two-day affair focusing on resilience, reimagining and recovery.
Following the pōwhiri and introduction, attendees participated in a thought-provoking Q&A conversation on The New Zealand Opportunity – how regional NZ can leverage its fundamental competitive advantages and opportunities to drive economic growth as bubbles and borders start to open.
Other conference presentations included case studies on the impacts of COVID-19 on local and regional growth, the importance of place-based, regionally-led economic development and local government reform.
All the topics provided unique insights into how economic development has changed since COVID and how regions can position themselves to make the most of their recovery.
Economic and Regional Development Minister Stuart Nash also used the conference as an opportunity to announce the refreshed Provincial Development Unit: Kānoa – Regional Economic Development & Investment Unit (Kanoa - REDIU) and Regional Strategic Partnership Fund.
Overall, the conference proved to be a valuable networking opportunity and a chance to share in the economic challenges and successes facing every region.
