April Update
Welcome to our second update for the year. It's been a great start to 2016, with the Action Plan Leads meeting on 1 March showcasing work already underway.
We have created a one page Action Plan update outlining sector work underway and upcoming milestones which will be updated every two months. Please feel free to share this amongst your networks.

Update on 2016 so far
Maintaining the momentum on the Regional Growth Programme and the wider Bay of Connections framework remains a key focus for 2016.
- Aquaculture sector meeting #2 - April 12, Tauranga - Opotiki Harbour Development project is progressing with different work streams underway.
- Freight Logistics Action Group (FLAG) meeting #2 - April 12, Tauranga - The focus of the meeting was on transport in a changing climate with a presentation from European Motors Distributors general manager Dean Sheed on future changes in transport fuel.
- Bay of Connections Governance Group meeting - April 19, Rotorua
Forestry Conference – Changing Perceptions of Engineered Timber for Construction
This one-day conference will showcase the use of engineered timber internationally and timber use changes in New Zealand. The value of wood will also be explored from different angles, including both emotive and economic responses to engineered timber buildings.
International speakers from Australia, Canada and the UK will share their experiences and learnings with topics including architectural, engineering and construction aspects of engineered timber buildings. For more information, please click here.
Regional Growth Study Forum – Save the date
Date: Wednesday 6 July
Location: Mataatua Marae, Whakatane
Details: The two-hour forum will provide an update on the progress of the Regional Growth Study actions, and an overview of activities in the wider Bay of Connections portfolio

Afforestation Grants Scheme - Applications open
Applications to the Afforestation Grants Scheme are now open until 8 June.
The programme is designed to help establish 15,000 hectares of new forest plantations between 2015 and 2020, to improve land-use productivity and regional economic development.

RFP: Seeking an Agribusiness Action Lead
Bay of Connections is seeking an Action Lead for the Agribusiness component of the Action Plan, to work alongside the other Action Leads and Bay of Connections sector strategy co-ordinators.
