Data Project

The Data Project was established to provide Bay of Connections, its key stakeholders and industry with information and insights that are valuable, timely and easy to understand.

This kaupapa aimed to provide relevant economic data – at a national, regional, sub-regional and/or district level, as required – to support our stakeholders in their own planning and decision-making, for inclusion in various reports and to support engagement with Government and potential investors.

To support the COVID-19 response, Bay of Connections established a Regional Data Group, comprised of data analysts and representatives from EDAs, councils and other organisations from across the region. Meeting quarterly, the group heard from relevant speakers from across New Zealand and shared insights from their local areas. A key outcome was the agreement of common datasets and categorisations for consistency in publicly released information and reporting to organisational leaders.

More recently, Bay of Connections facilitated a shared Infometrics data subscription with the Whakatāne, Ōpōtiki and Kawerau district councils to deliver cost savings to all parties.

An overview of the Bay of Plenty’s economic profile and links to data sources can be found in our Information Hub. Key quarterly and annual data releases are shared in the Bay of Connections panui.
