New Member for Bay of Connections

Priority One director, Simon Clarke, has been appointed to the Bay of Connections Governance Group as its Western Bay of Plenty business representative.

The Bay of Connections is the regional growth strategy for the wider Bay of Plenty region, which incorporates Eastern and Western Bay of Plenty, Rotorua and Taupo. It is led by a Governance Group, made up of representatives from throughout the region.

Simon replaces Hemi Rolleston, who has moved away from the region.

As well as a Priority One board member, Mr Clarke is the General Manager Business Solutions and Technology at Tauranga-based Trustpower. He has held a number of senior executive roles in the legal and energy sectors and was previously chief executive for Arc Innovations, a Christchurch smart metering service provider.

Mr Clarke is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors and in 2010 was named Young Energy Executive of the Year at the Deloitte Energy Excellence Awards. He has a particular interest in renewable energy, ICT and emerging customer facing technologies, with degrees in law and politics.

Governance Group chair Doug Leeder says Mr Clarke brings an extensive range of business and management experience to the group, as well energy and technology expertise which is particularly relevant to the Bay of Connections and its sector growth strategies.

“The wider Bay of Plenty region has a wealth of experience and resources which is harnessed through the Bay of Connections. Collectively, the wider region is working together to achieve our goals of creating jobs and growing key industries within the Bay of Plenty.”
