There are a number of education and training providers within the Bay of Plenty and wider Bay of Plenty region. Some of these include:

Waikato University

The University of Waikato works in partnership with the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic to offer a growing range of degrees and programmes. The two institutions form the Bay of Plenty Tertiary Partnership and for more than a decade, have worked together to increase tertiary education opportunities in the Bay. Since 2009, the University of Waikato has been sharing Bay of Plenty Polytechnic facilities at the Tauranga Windermere Campus and has offered business studies at the Bongard Centre for more than 12 years.

There are a range of bridging, certificate, diploma, degree and post graduate diploma programmes. There are 10 undergraduate degrees and a range of shorter programmes delivered in partnership with the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic. For some classes, video conferencing connects Tauranga classrooms to the Hamilton lectures, while most classes are taught face-to-face by both Tauranga-based and Hamilton-based lecturers and tutors.

Bay of Plenty Polytechnic

Bay of Plenty Polytechnic offers the largest range of New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) approved programmes in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty. It offers a comprehensive range of short courses, certificates, diplomas, degrees and pathways from art, animal care, architectural technology and carpentry, beauty therapy, business and computing, design and education, electrical and engineering, to healthcare, maritime, marine studies, music, tourism and sport.

All programmes are relevant, hands-on and of high quality with students benefiting from smaller class sizes and personal attention by passionate staff. Waiariki Institute of Technology

Established in 1978, Waiariki is one of the largest tertiary institutes outside the main university centres. Originally developed as a centre for adult and trades education, Waiariki has been offering quality vocational studies for 29 years. Waiariki has a student population of around 9,000 full- and part-time students, of which 200 of these are from overseas. Waiariki began to offer bachelor degree programmes in the early 1990s.

Waiariki has strong links to local and national training and governmental bodies ensuring students obtain relevant and job-ready qualifications when they graduate.
Waiariki is known for its high level of student support and prides itself on ensuring that the needs of its students are met with the provision of excellent services and facilities. The institution offers a small classroom environment, maximizing individual attention and learning. Tutorial support is also available in many forms.
